Smile Consultation: (509) 590-0909

Many people feel like they simply aren’t achieving the results they want by brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash alone. These at-home oral hygiene steps are crucial to maintaining a strong smile, but sometimes patients need an extra boost to achieve optimal oral health; that’s when it’s time to take a look at your diet.

Everything that we eat and drink ends up coating our teeth. When you think about it that way, it makes sense that our diets can make or break our smiles. Keep reading to get more information from our Cheney dentists.

The first thing to understand is the simple fact that oral bacteria love sugar; sugar allows bacteria to grow and multiply. That is why it is highly recommended that you limit your consumption of sugary foods and drinks. When you do indulge, try to rinse your mouth with water right after you finish eating or drinking.

You also want to be mindful about how and when you consume acidic substances. Acidic things, like fruit juice, for example, temporarily soften enamel and leave it more susceptible to damage and erosion. That is why you want to wait to brush your teeth for at least 20 to 30 minutes after you eat or drink something acidic.

One of the best things that you can do for your smile is to drink a lot of water throughout the day. Saliva is your body’s natural way of neutralizing bacteria and re-mineralizing dental enamel. If you are dehydrated, your body is not able to produce saliva. And, in fact, taking a sip of water triggers your body to produce saliva, so you want to drink plenty of water to combat bacteria and bad breath.

If you have specific questions about how your diet affects your smile, you can always contact our Cheney dentists to learn more and to schedule a personal consultation. We look forward to speaking with you!

A lucky few of us are born with well-balanced, perfectly straight smiles. For the rest of us, there’s cosmetic dentistry!

If you have been thinking about straightening and perfecting your smile, our Cheney cosmetic dentists are here to help. Keep reading to learn more about some of your treatment options.

Traditional orthodontics: this tried and true treatment uses brackets and wires to move teeth into healthier, and more attractive, positions. Orthodontic treatment is often beneficial for patients who need to dramatically improve their dental structures and bite alignments.

Invisalign: Invisalign offers an alternative to traditional orthodontics. This treatment uses clear plastic aligners to move teeth, rather than relying on metal brackets or wires. Invisalign is quite discreet, because the aligners allow the natural teeth to show through during the treatment process. Additionally, Invisalign aligners are completely removable, so you’ll be able to eat, drink, and clean your smile normally.

Dental bonding: bonding can transform the appearance of the smile without actually moving the natural teeth at all. Our dental team is able to applying custom-shaded dental resin to specific spots on the teeth in order to close gaps in the smile and give the teeth a more streamlined appearance. One benefit of bonding is that the entire treatment process can be completed in just one appointment.

Porcelain veneers: like bonding, veneers cover the natural teeth in order to give the smile a straighter appearance. Veneers are individually crafted from porcelain, and then permanently attached to the patient’s teeth. With veneers, we are able to close gaps between teeth, make smiles appear straighter, and lengthen disproportionately short enamel.

As you can see, there are a number of treatment options that can be used to give your smile a straighter, more perfected appearance. Our Cheney cosmetic dentists will help you assess your options, so that you can pick the perfect treatment for you. Get started by scheduling a consultation with our team—give us a call!
